Comment on The Standells – Dirty Water (1965) by TheBuddha https://musicfor.us/2018/11/10/the-standells-dirty-water-1965/#comment-123 Sun, 11 Nov 2018 16:07:59 +0000 https://musicfor.us/?p=1199#comment-123 As someone who spent a goodly amount of time in the Boston area, this is a favored song. Technically, I lived on the other side of the dirty water. I lived in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Still, most of us consider it a part of the “Greater Boston Area.”

In fact, we’re so used to considering it as such, many of us will simply say “Boston” instead of elaborating that we’re in Cambridge, much like people will say they are from Boston instead of being more specific and saying they’re from “Dorchester” or “Roxbury.”

There’s also “Sweet Caroline” which is so considered a Boston song that it’s traditionally sung during the seventh inning stretch at home Red Sox games. In that case, I don’t think most people actually know all the words, but they are enthusiastic at the “whoa oh oh oh oahhh” part. You’ll even hear people singing along when you use the seventh inning stretch as an excuse to get more beer and use the bathroom. They’re pretty enthusiastic about it!

(I’m not really a baseball fan, but one can’t live in Boston, or near Boston, and not go to Fenway to watch some games. I’m pretty sure they revoke your Bostonian-Card if you don’t at least attend one game per year.)

Comment on 150yo Riverboat Stomp song by TheBuddha https://musicfor.us/2018/09/03/150yo-riverboat-stomp-song/#comment-100 Thu, 04 Oct 2018 07:19:13 +0000 https://musicfor.us/?p=452#comment-100 In reply to COF.

Pfft! I see this comment now. (I’m not sure how I missed it sooner.)

Next time, if you’d like, just tell @Lord_Nougat that, “TheBuddha said get off your lazy ass and post it yourself!” Then throw in an insult about boats. If he argues, throw in another boat insult – and maybe insult his sexuality. He drinks but I’m pretty sure he can figure out how to leave his own comment. Pretty sure! I’ll yell at him. I ain’t scared.

That is one of the reasons for this site. Time waits for no man, and we are trying to ensure the giants whose shoulders these artist have stood on don’t disappear for just a little bit longer.

Thanks for your participation. We love interaction.

“xxxxxxxxx it was nice meeting your father, dicky betts”

my dad sat next to him on a flight and they struck up a conversation. dad, being much older than betts and a bit of a cut up, told him he didn’t know who the allman brothers were but knew his son was into music and thought the autograph would be funny.

here’s hoping for a swift and full recovery!
